I grew up listening to Harry Belafonte. I loved his music
then, and I love it now. I thought this would be a documentary about his music.
It isn't. This is a documentary about the man, and his life. I had no idea he
had spent so much time in Africa, that he placed his life in danger to help
others, that he dedicated his life, early on, to helping others, to build
better race relations. This documentary is better than many history books that
talk about the same subject. It should be in every school in every history and
social study class, and be viewed and discussed at least once a year. In the
meantime, view it, and discuss it, with your kids.
